Summer Bike Care: 10 Tips to Protect Your Two-Wheeler in Bengaluru Heat

Why Summer Care Matters

Bengaluru's summers (March–May) bring temperatures up to 38°C. This affects your two-wheeler in ways you might not expect — from faster oil degradation to tyre pressure changes.

10 Essential Summer Tips

1. Check your engine oil viscosity

High temperatures thin your oil faster. If you're using 10W-30, consider switching to 15W-50 for better protection in summer heat.

2. Monitor tyre pressure weekly

Hot roads increase tyre pressure. Over-inflated tyres have less grip and wear unevenly. Check pressure in the morning before riding.

3. Park in shade whenever possible

UV rays fade paint, crack rubber hoses, and damage your seat material. If shade isn't available, use a bike cover.

4. Keep the battery topped up

Heat accelerates battery fluid evaporation. Check electrolyte levels monthly (for non-sealed batteries). For EV owners: avoid charging immediately after a long ride in heat.

5. Flush your coolant (liquid-cooled bikes)

Old coolant loses its heat dissipation capacity. Flush and replace before summer if it's been more than 2 years.

6. Inspect brake fluid

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. In extreme heat, contaminated fluid can boil, causing brake fade. Replace annually.

7. Clean or replace air filter

Dusty Bengaluru summers clog filters faster. A dirty filter reduces power and increases fuel consumption by up to 10%.

8. Protect chrome and metal parts

Apply a thin layer of wax or silicone spray on chrome parts to prevent heat-induced oxidation.

9. Check your chain tension

Metal expands in heat. Your chain may need slight slack adjustment compared to winter settings.

10. Carry water and a basic toolkit

Always carry a water bottle and a basic toolkit for emergencies. Bengaluru traffic + summer heat = higher breakdown risk.
